There are several types of cops who each receive training for their role in a specified area. A narcotics cop would usually work undercover, pretending to either buy or sell drugs in order to crack down on drugs. Cops who train in missing persons are known as a K9 Police Officer. A K9 cop works with a tracking dog, such as a bloodhound, as this breed of dog is trained in picking up a missing person's trail. How to become a K9 cop: one needs to attend police training, followed by training in the academics of the law. The candidate will also be trained in areas such as self defense, marksmanship and dealing with other dangerous situations.

You will be qualified to apply for the position of a Police Officer after graduation, with a probationary period of approximately one year. After this time you need to receive specialized training in a specific area of law enforcement, before being able to apply to the K9 unit.

A cop who has specialized in auto theft, uses a variety of methods to retrieve stolen vehicles. They carry out their job by carrying out random vehicle checks in parking lots, street parking or by keeping a note of vehicles that have been reported as stolen by their owners. Relevant training for auto theft must be undertaken and the skills necessary include five years experience in claims investigations, auto material damage and a basic knowledge of how claims are handled.

A park ranger law enforcement officer performs law enforcement duties in a national park, including preserving the peace, boundary control, traffic enforcement, responding to emergency calls and protecting visitors and resources. How to become a park ranger: one must pass the pre-employment medical exam and drugs test, be of at least 21 years old and obtain a level 2 in law enforcement commission.
